SATA Performance

To test the relative performance of each of the controllers we used ATTO disk benchmark which is a straight forward but surprisingly popular tool for testing storage devices or controllers.
The benchmark sequentially writes and reads files from 0.5KB to 8MB and can also be adjusted for overlapped I/O and a variety of queue depths. For our testing we set the file size to 1MB with all other setting in the tool left at their default values. Each test was ran three times to ensure consistency.
